My approach to painting and drawing stems from a deep reverence for nature and the environment combined with a love of adventure, exploring the unknown, and immersing myself in the creative process. In the past several years, my landscape painting has included the mountains of Colorado, the rocky canyons of the Southwest, and the California wine country and coast. I've revisited the art of still life and done many studies of fruit, flowers, sculpture, and other objects. I've done many paintings of my dogs and other animals. Finally, I've continued my figurative drawings and paintings working from a live model.
The goal of my work is to capture the beauty, power, and mystery of the subject, whether it is a particular landscape, a tiny flower, an animal, or the human figure. I love creating dramatic compositions, and working with intense color and interesting textures. Regardless of what I paint, an intimate connection with the subject develops and is forever imprinted upon my memory.
My mediums include encaustic, oil painting, and watercolor. I am currently working on a series of plein air and encaustic paintings of Northern California.
Background: I am a professional artist who has lived in the San Francisco Bay area for the past 25 years. Prior to that, I lived around the country including Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan, Washington, and Alaska. Living in such diverse and beautiful places has had a big impact on my work. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Colorado in 1977 where my focus was abstract painting. I received a full scholarship in my senior year based on my paintings.
My work can be seen on my web site at www.jocelynaudette.com and at:
- Quicksilver Mine Company in Forestville, California
- Elder Art Gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina
- Skol Studio Gallery in Ouray, Colorado
- Casa Design in Calistoga, California
I often have paintings in exhibits across the country. I was the founder and producer of the Art for America Benefit at Clos Pegase Winery in which nearly 100 Bay area artists donated paintings to help the victims of 9/11 in New York.
