CLAY AND PAINT

My garden is my passion, and I am inspired by both the beauty of the flowers and plants, and the often repellent creatures hidden underneath. The cycles of garden life, endlessly regenerated through photo-synthesis and decay, inspire my paintings and garden art.

My porcelain work often uses eyes, mouths and faces to humanize the everyday plates and functional forms. I use clothing such as evening dresses and kimonos as a metaphor for self-decoration as an emotional and psychological expression.

Diane Flyr has a BA in Art from UC Davis, and has been gardening and playing with clay and paint most of her life.

Her ceramic work has been shown at The Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC, The Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York, the Di Rosa Preserve and various galleries. Her Paintings have been exhibited in the Flag Show at the Napa Valley Museum and in several Napa Valley Wine Auctions.
